GENERAL DUTIES: Responsible for the overall supervision, management, and efficient operation of an assigned center. Hires, transfers, suspends, lays off, recruits, promotes, assigns, rewards, disciplines, responsibly directs employees, and adjusts grievances in the interest of Tender Years for those employees reporting to the position. Uses independent judgment and discretion in developing and implementing Corporate policy in the administration of assigned center.
PERFORMANCE OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Ensures each enrolled child receives proper supervision and emotional support. No child is ever left alone.
B. Supervises the center’s personal hygiene. Insures proper toileting, diapering, hand washing, and hair combing of all children. Insures children are neat and presentable prior to leaving the center.
C. Ensures development of children’s positive self-esteem and self-concepts.
D. Ensures proper discipline techniques are used when disciplining children. All discipline is in accordance with Tender Years policies and state rules and regulations. Physical punishment is never used.
E. Prepares and adjusts employees’ schedules to ensure all classes are maintained within approved proper staff/child ratios.
F. Plans and purchases center supplies as necessary to ensure proper center operation.
G. Ensures the center is maintained safe, clean, attractive, and ready for use each day.
H. Monitors all center activities to ensure they are in compliance with company policy and state rules and regulations.
I. Plans and conducts monthly staff meetings.
J. Plans and assists with parent/teacher conferences.
K. Plans and conducts special center programs such as open houses, Christmas programs, Workshops, Week of the Young Child events, etc.
L. Directs center participation in community events, such as holiday parades, mall exhibits, charity fund raising events, etc.
M. Uses independent judgment and discretion to recruit, interview, hire and train staff as necessary. Maintains accurate employment records.
N. Maintains an active substitute employee list.
O. Documents positive and negative behavior of staff. Evaluates employee performance in accordance with established company procedures. Uses independent judgment and discretion to discipline, suspend, and dismiss staff when necessary.
P. Uses independent judgment and discretion to assign and prioritize staff duties and establishes procedures for these duties.
Q. Maintains center enrollment at licensed capacity or above. Encourages the enrollment of drop-in students when space is available.
R. Accepts and responds to employee concerns pursuant to Tender Years grievance procedure.
S. Meets and greets the public and conducts tours of the center.
T. Ensures proper transportation of all enrolled children to and from school, and on field trips. Secures alternate transportation in emergencies.
U. Keeps the Area Director informed about the center’s current status.
V. Ensures the proper use, maintenance and security of all center equipment, materials, and facilities.
W. Manages the center operating costs within approved budgets.
X. Properly maintains and cares for all curriculum materials, teachers manuals, resource libraries, etc. Ensures proper implementation of center curriculum.
Y. Other duties as assigned.
COMPLIANCE WITH POLICIES AND PROCEDURES:
A. Maintains current state and local certifications and/or requirements, childcare courses, first aid, CPR, etc. Participates in workshops, in-service meetings, seminars, etc., in an effort to expand knowledge of good early childhood techniques.
B. Is able to conduct emergency procedures for fire, tornado, floods, etc.
C. Completes assigned duties within the allotted time.
D. Assures compliance with federal and state employment laws, including nondiscrimination, reasonable accommodation, and wage payment laws.
COMPLIANCE WITH COMPANY RECORD KEEPING:
A. Maintains accurate center records for assigned children, including enrollment records, field trip forms, medicine slips, drop-in forms, developmental records, readiness test scores, infant notes, progress reports, daily attendance rolls, immunization records, transportation records, etc.
B. Reports all accidents to the Corporate office and completes the Company Accident Reports.
C. Ensures proper accounting of all center funds.
D. Ensures all center accounting records are accurately maintained. Accounts receivable and cash disbursement journal entries are neat, accurate and extended properly. Bank deposits are correct and deposited on time. The weekly report is completed on time.
E. Prepares and remits center maintenance reports, van maintenance reports, and employee time cards in accordance with established procedures.
F. Ensures proper business forms are posted in the center foyer. (Center business license, Certificates of Occupancy, Fire Drill and Self Inspection, Nondiscriminatory Notice, Day Care Rules and Regulations, Day Care License).
G. Insures all vendor services received by center are properly documented and reported.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
B. Must be agile enough to perform duties of a teacher of small children.
C. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
D. Must meet state requirements for education which requires one of the following:
a. Child Development Associate (CDA)
b. Technical Certificate of Credit (TCC) in Early Childhood Education , Child Development, Infant and Toddler, School Age and Youth Care or Program Administration and six (6) months of qualifying childcare experience.
c. Associates degree in Early /Childhood Education or Child Development and six (6 months of qualifying child care experience.
d. Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development and 3 months of qualifying childcare experience.
e. Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
f. Forty-hour (40) director training course approved by state licensing and has been employed at least 5 years as a Center Director.
E. Must have at least three years or more of general childcare experience and/or education.
Must have completed at least one certified course in first aid, CPR and fire safety
A. Must have a current driver’s license and be able to meet the state qualifications for a van/bus driver’s license.
B. Must provide evidence of a satisfactory motor vehicle records check and proof of insurance.
C. Must have the ability to relate to the area’s different levels of socio-economic structure.
D. Must never have been shown by credible evidence, e.g, a court or jury, a department investigation or other reliable evidence to have abused, neglected or deprived a child or adult or to have subjected any person to serious injury as a result of intentional or grossly negligent misconduct.
