Come join a growing full-line wholesale food distributor located in Culpeper, VA. Servicing 3 states and over 1500 customers. This position directs the transportation personnel in delivering product to customer locations in a timely, dependable, damage-free condition in appropriately reliable and well-maintained vehicles within D.O.T. guidelines. Responsible for a dispatcher/administrator, yard jockey, and semi- and straight-truck drivers. Responsible to ensure consistent and timely delivery of goods to our customers.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads and develops employees to achieve desired results and maximize their potential.
  • Develops drivers in understanding the significance of their positions and the impact they have on the customer relationships.
  • Ensures all drivers are in compliance with D.O.T. regulations.
  • Completes employee performance reviews.
  • Routes trucks to meet customer needs, while maximizing the use of resources and minimizing expenses.
  • Maintains truck fleet to ensure high level of performance within budget guidelines.
  • Generates and maintains records to comply with state and federal D.O.T. regulations.
  • Keeps abreast of all legislative changes which impact the D.O.T. and C.D.L. laws.
  • Reviews and approves transportation related invoices (i.e. Penske invoices), to ensure accuracy.
  • Responsible for maintaining driver bonus criteria. Hire/terminate with policies established by and in consultation with Human Resources.
  • Recommends equipment requirements.

Education and/or Experience

  • Must have the verbal, quantitative, and interpersonal skills normally acquired through the completion of a post-secondary course of study.
  • Must have minimum five years’ experience in transportation.
  • Must have extensive experience in direct supervision of departmental personnel.
  • Must have ability to plan, organize, and delegate assignments.
  • Must possess motivational skills and the ability to train and develop personnel.
  • Must have experience in routing and truck fleet management.
  • Must qualify for and maintain C.D.L. licensure.
  • Must have a participative management style and be an advocate of team concept.
  • Must have well developed interpersonal skills and have the ability to promote harmonious relationships with staff, peers, and supervisors.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must be results oriented.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms and talk or hear
  • Regularly lift and/or move objects 10-60lbs occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 lbs.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Frequently required to sit and climb or balance
  • Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust and focus.

Hours of Work

The expectation of the company will be that a minimum of 5 days per week and 50+ hours will be worked on a regular basis. The work schedule will vary depending on operational needs.
