Position will be assigned to an office in the Programs Department. This position will require effective verbal/written communication with other staff, inmates and the general public. Conduct continuous visual/audio surveillance of assigned work area. Accurately operate office machines, prepare written reports/forms which accurately reflect information reviewed from various sources. Demonstrate/instruct inmates in the proper and safe use of tools, equipment, supplies, etc. Review, analyze and evaluate various documents and behavioral data gathered from interviews, documentation and/or personal observation. Perform crisis intervention and routine counseling, to include suicide prevention. Account for supplies and equipment. Implement and manage correctional programs.

  • Documented knowledge of supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
