Your Mission:

The Vice President of Platform Engineering is responsible for creation, support and maintenance of the Medidata platform. The VP works with the SVP of Engineering to set technology directions, defines the technical approach and overall timetable for developing the agreed functionality, and manages the actual development effort through product release.

  • Responsible for overseeing the development & engineering function in a sub-part of the overall organization such as hardware, software, systems, telecommunications, or product design and engineering

  • Responsibilities include overseeing the creation, development, and design of the organization’s products, engineering services, and may include the research function

  • Collaborate in setting product direction

  • Determine overall technical approach, including the data model, architecture and processing algorithms

  • Conduct review sessions between engineering, product management and SQA during the development process, to confirm the functionality is being delivered correctly and can be tested comprehensively

  • Enforce adherence to the Software Development Lifecycle by monitoring code review sessions and the production of design specifications

  • Provide line management to members of the Engineering team

  • Manage the support and bug fixing process for existing customers

  • Develops strategic plans to ensure successful implementation of action plans and objectives where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of the company, competitive environment, technology and economic or social implications of organization activities

  • Participates in development of corporate methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people

  • Approves budgets and schedules to meet corporate requirements

  • Erroneous decisions will have a serious impact on the overall success of long-term company operations

  • Regularly interacts with executives and/or major customers.

  • Interactions frequently involve highly visible activities such as speaking to or negotiating with customers, influencing other executives and/or academics, lobbying regulators or policy makers and representing the organization on matters of great significance to the organization

  • Directs and controls the activities of a complete functional area through multiple levels of management within the company

  • Has overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, managing expense priorities, and approving changes to methods and practices

  • Manages a team of directors and/or high-level individual contributors

  • Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry & clinical trials

  • Superior organization and communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Total commitment to quality and attention to detail

  • Ruby on Rails

  • Database technologies (MySQL & Postgres)

  • OpenAPI and API development methodologies

  • SAAS & PAAS based Technology Architecture

  • Cloud Native Applications


Your Education & Experience:

  • Four-year college degree preferably in computer science, information systems or life sciences

  • 5+ years’ experience in developing software for clinical research

  • 10+ years’ experience in a software development environment

  • 5+ years managerial experience
