Job Purpose
Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Vice President (VP), Development serves as a key executive leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting The Denver Center for the Performing Arts. In partnership with the CEO, this position is
responsible for all fundraising and development activities. The successful candidate will help forge new relationships to build the Denver Center for the
Performing Arts’ visibility, impact, and financial resources. The VP, Development also will continue the implementation of a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating individual and philanthropic support.
Duties and Responsibilities
The VP, Development will have primary responsibility for establishing and implementing the infrastructure needed to grow a $6M annual philanthropic budget through the solicitation of major gifts, grants, special events, and corporate and foundation support.
This individual will expand and diversify the Denver Center for the Performing Arts’ donor base and pipeline and will work closely with colleagues and a team of eight development staff members to secure funding for existing and new initiatives. In addition, the VP will work closely with the Board of
Trustees, the Chairman and the Development Committee of the Board.
It is expected that the amount raised by the Denver Center for the Performing Arts will increase in future years as the VP, Development systematically and effectively strengthens the organization’s overall fundraising capacity including the readiness for a capital campaign.
Support and partner with the CEO and Board of Trustees on all major fundraising initiatives; collaborate with members of the Executive Team to develop and implement organizational strategy
Establish and nurture a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization, including board members, staff and supporters in the Denver community
Actively work with the CEO to continue the implementation of a comprehensive development strategy that heightens the CEO’s stewardship of major donors
Oversee research efforts of funding sources and trends, with foresight, to help position the Denver Center for the Performing Arts ahead of major funding changes or trends
Maintain a personal relationship with and a dynamic portfolio of individual annual donors; secure major, capital, and planned gifts, as well as advanced annual gifts
Implement a stewardship program that is currently ready to be launched aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors; launch a moves management
program; provide and present statistical analysis to board and senior leaders
Foster and enhance the culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the Denver Center for the Performing Arts using data and performance metrics to guide, support, and strengthen development activity
Develop and mentor the development team
Successfully lead a multi-million dollar capital campaign strategy and implementation which is already 77 % to goal
Partner with Executive Team to secure and implement a comprehensive data and records management system in partnership with IT and Marketing and Sales
Actively oversee the Development Team to strategize and organize successful well attended fundraising events, including Saturday Night Alive and Women with Hattitude
Qualifications
Minimum ten years of demonstrated success in management and leadership of a nonprofit fundraising department, including forming, maintaining and motivating a strong and effective leadership team, utilizing a collaborative and inclusive leadership style, demonstrating the ability to be an effective delegator and developer of top talent, and fostering a culture of innovation.
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred
Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives; ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also a team player who will productively engage and collaborate with others.

Supervisor Responsibilities
The VP of Development will be responsible for the hiring and development of their direct reports, and overall talent management of the development
department.
This position oversees a team of a total of 9 team members.
5 direct reports that consist of: Senior Director of Major Gifts, Capital Campaign Manager, and Associate Director of Annual Funds and the Grant Manager.
3 indirect reports that consist of: Donor Relations Manager, Events and Development officer and a Development Coordinator.
Working Conditions
Sitting, standing, working indoors, and working on computers and phones at a desk. Considerable evening work, attends
many functions city-wide, some travel. Duties are primarily performed in a general office setting.

The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
