The overall purpose of the role is to be accountable for collections policy and strategies for mortgage, credit cards, personal loans and retail business banking lending products.

The role will be responsible to:
  • Manage, develop, and implement collections policies and risk strategies using advanced analytical, quantitative, statistical and technical skills as relevant.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of analytical tools and/or strategies for collections areas including but not limited to early and late stage delinquencies, hardship programs, contact strategies, capacity forecasting, recoveries, third-party collections agencies, etc.
  • Evaluate, implement and monitor internal and external credit scoring models and/or financial forecasting models using both traditional and other advanced predictive technologies. Leverage segmentation and optimization techniques in strategy development.
  • Partner with credit risk strategy and collections operations teams to ensure the successful implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of the strategies to drive the business direction within the risk appetite and risk management framework. Act as a second-line oversight for operations area.
  • Establish effective MIS tools and reports leveraging statistical and other software programs to provide timely updates to senior management on key KPIs.
  • Provide leadership and support for analytical research projects and/or statistical models to include project design, data collection, database design, analysis and presentation of results.
  • Initiate and conduct studies including non-traditional and alternative data sources to develop statistical/financial models for projections and to improve existing strategies.
  • Manage and mentor a team of managers and/or analysts to support the functions described. Work with senior management to understand business issues, determine appropriate solutions, and communicate results.
  • Ensure account management systems are operating efficiently. Code, test, program and implement new policy changes and/or systems.
  • Ensure compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies. Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.

Qualifications

  • Eight years of directly relevant experience and proven risk management experience, preferably in a financial services industry. Prior collections strategy experience for lending products is strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, engineering, finance, economics, related field or equivalent experience; Masters Degree preferred.
  • Experience using statistical computer languages (SQL, Python, etc.) and modeling tools (R, SAS, SPSS, etc.) to manipulate data from large datasets and derive insights.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis and/or MIS experience, or equivalent. Experience in advance analytics techniques is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of strategy design, segmentation, targeting, pricing optimization and product life cycle management required.
  • Experience in leading a team of analysts and/or managers is required
  • Strong management, interpersonal, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to present to senior management.
