A new position at NewCo, the Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications will proactively build, implement and measure high-impact internal and external communication plans to advance the company’s key global initiatives. In the past, much of AECOM’s Management Services brand awareness was largely in the commercial space. The new Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications will be charged with building an independent brand for NewCo in Washington and raising its profile as a leading federal government contractor. In addition, there is a strong appetite for better and more effective internal communications/employee engagement as well as executive communications (internally and externally) on behalf of the President/CEO.

The position reports directly to the Executive President of Strategic Growth with direct interface to the President/CEO of NewCo, and the scope of the role in its entirety includes media relations, crisis communications, internal communications and employee engagement, thought leadership, executive communications/speechwriting, marketing communications and branding, awards/affiliations, digital and social media, advertising and integration activities across NewCo. He/she will manage an internal team of 2-3, and will have additional help from others inside the organization, as needed.

Minimum Requirements

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

This is a senior management position for an individual with a proven track record in strategic communications development and execution, with specific experience in the Federal Government Service Contracting industry. The successful candidate will have ten or more years corporate and/or public affairs communications experience (or comparable news media experience) within agency and/or corporate environments with a strong emphasis on executive and corporate writing.

He/she will be comfortable working in a matrixed organization and will successfully exhibit strong influencing skills, political astuteness and business acumen so as to be seen as a trusted adviser to their

internal and external partners. The successful candidate will also demonstrate the following:

COMMUNICATION AND COMMUNICATIONS MANAGEMENT

  • Expertise: A thorough understanding of both internal and external communications with a

fluency in the most current communications mediums and how these media need to be linked

as part of a comprehensive communications platform to create a differentiated brand.

  • Planning and Execution: Ability to evaluate opportunities, define targets and overall

communications architecture, design plans that achieve those targets and manage the successful execution of those plans.

  • Writing: Strong writing skills, able to write in a variety of styles and for a variety of media; proven experience in business to business communication; strong background in speechwriting for campaigns, public policy and corporate communications.
  • Media Relations: Experience working with news media including business and trade journalists working across print, broadcast and online channels; demonstrated ability to develop and pitch compelling stories that hit the mark with journalists.

  • Project Management: Strong, solutions-oriented project and change management skills – the

ability to organize people, tools and technologies and orchestrate multiple activities at once to accomplish desired results.

  • Focus and Conscientiousness: Knows when to appropriately make executive decisions and when

to collaborate and make a consensus decision.

  • Business Acumen: Solid business acumen and analytical skills, including an understanding of key financial metrics relevant to a publicly-traded, Fortune 500 firm.
  • Working and Management Style: Collaborative and energetic working style; skilled at diplomacy and gaining appreciation of all perspectives and then reaching alignment; motivates/inspires others at all levels and with diverse personalities.
  • Creative Leadership: Highly innovative; champions breakthrough ideas and initiatives.
  • People Management: Recruits and promotes the best people available; assesses resource needs

and plans for future needs.

EDUCATION AND CREDENTIALS

The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Communications/PR, Marketing, English, Journalism or related discipline. An advanced degree is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Advance Degree in related field is preferred.
