The University of Cincinnati is seeking to fill a CPS Strong Director position. Reporting to the Vice President for Equity, Inclusion & Community Impact in close partnership and collaboration with the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, the Director will guide efforts to conceptualize, define, assess, nurture, and cultivate UC’s objective of significantly increasing the number of Cincinnati Public School students who enroll in and graduate from the university.

This leader will build relationships within and between the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati Public Schools and other community partners to enhance the successful matriculation of students through the development and coordination of pathway programs, scholarships, mentoring opportunities, innovative research, and academic support services.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Program Development and Implementation:
    Work with university partners to build on existing programs that meet student success goals resulting in stronger academic achievement, enhanced campus engagement, and sense of community for CPS students.


  • Strategic Planning:
    Create long and short-term action plans that advance the university’s priorities around education pathways, programs, and services that increase the number of CPS students who graduate from UC.


  • Student Planning and Monitoring:
    Assess student data continuously and provide meaningful interventions to ensure that students are on track to graduate. Collaborate with campus partners on the systematic collection, research, analysis and reporting of academic progress, retention and graduation data to support successful student outcomes. Coordinate mentoring experiences for students to enhance persistence and professional development.


  • Staff Management:
    Supervise exempt and non-exempt staff.


  • Financial and Resource Management:
    Develop and monitor the program budget. Generate internal and external funding proposals as opportunities arise. Participate in fundraising activities as necessary.


  • University and Community Engagement/Convening:
    Facilitate an intersectional educational team in the areas of readiness, access, and success. Align and coordinate efforts and communications across all levels of partner engagement including students, faculty, staff, CPS-UC alumni, and administrators—within and between the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Public Schools—to increase CPS students’ success. Keep abreast of emerging trends and practices within the educational landscape and within the community – understanding their potential impact on students. Collaborate with UC and CPS partners to launch, monitor, analyze, and/or advocate for continuous improvement projects and the adoption of policies, procedures, programs, and services that reduce barriers and improve CPS students’ learning and success. Participate in CPS related student programming on campus and in the community.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related educational program, student affairs administration, counseling, student development or other related field.
  • Seven (7) years of related experience that includes progressively responsible administrative experience. Experience in direct student support, program management and assessment.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience.


Additional Qualifications considered:

  • Master’s/Terminal degree in a relevant field with five (5) years or more experience.
  • The successful candidate must have strong organization, planning, analytical and problem resolution abilities; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; excellent interpersonal skills; ability to understand the unique needs of students; and to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, administrators and community partners.
  • Demonstrated leadership advancing diversity, equity and inclusion within an organization, team, and/or campus environment.
  • Experience facilitating student success in higher education or K-12 environments.
