The USC Athletics department is seeking a Deputy Athletic Director/Chief of Strategy Officer with strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills to join its team. The Deputy Athletic Director/Chief of Strategy Officer will report to the Director of Athletics and assume a strategic role in the overall management of the athletics department.


Specific Job Accountabilities:

  • Assist the Director of Athletics with day-to-day management of the Department of Athletics
  • Execute the Director of Athletics’ vision for the creation and implementation of an innovative and efficient departmental organizational structure to meet the demands of the modern intercollegiate athletics landscape
  • Serve as a primary trusted partner for key constituent relationships on behalf of the Director of Athletics to ensure effective alignment and collaboration, including but not limited to the offices of the President and Board of Trustees, communications and governmental relations, general counsel, finance and administration, etc.
  • Provide strategic direction and vision for key revenue initiatives for external and revenue components of the department, including ticket sales, corporate sponsorships, communications, marketing and advertising, digital and social media, etc.
  • Manage key departmental contracts, including coaching and vendor contracts
  • Manage the sport supervision model and head coach engagement with department leadership to ensure effective communication and meaningful support
  • Develop systems and processes for integrating data and analytics into the daily dialogue, operation, and decision-making of the department
  • Manage and administer the Athletic Director’s cabinet and senior leadership teams
  • Represent the Director of Athletics and the Department of Athletics as needed


Preferred Qualifications


Preferred Experience:
7 years


Preferred Expertise
: Master’s degree in business administration or a related field. Seven years’ directly related professional experience, in financial institutions, Division I NCAA athletics administration, higher education, and/or other related fields/industries. Proven experience in advertising and marketing in large, highly complex organizations, with campaigns of both local and global impact. Experience with social media management (e.g., Twitter, Snapchat).

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree Minimum Experience: 4 years Minimum Field of Expertise: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, economics, or related field, and directly related experience. Four years’ experience in financial analysis, with some in a leadership or management role. Demonstrated administration experience in an intercollegiate or professional athletics environment. Experience in communications, marketing and/or advertising. Excellent diplomatic, interpersonal, and communication skills (written and oral), able to interact with individuals at all levels of highly complex organizations and maintain high degrees of confidentiality. Exemplary project management and decision-making skills, able to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives and develop metrics to measure project progress. Proven organizational skills.
