The Global & North America Head of Media Excellence is responsible for overseeing Johnson & Johnson’s global enterprise media investment, managing global media agency relationships, and leading the company’s approach to programmatic and data driven precision marketing – delivering on the evolution from mass to personalized marketing at scale, and from channel planning to an audience first approach across channels, powered by Digital.

This role identifies and drives strategic priorities and planning principles for media, across all channels, as well as operational processes that deliver P&L impact and enable forward-looking innovation. This role also spearheads efforts to maximize brand safety, combat ad fraud, and ensure media data-governance across J&J’s global media efforts.

This role will be the primary Media expert in the company by Marketing and Business leaders across Johnson & Johnson. He or she will be both an advisor as well as an educator and strategic visionary for J&J in area of Media Communications, understanding the intersection of Marketing, Technology, and Commerce – fueled by Data. The person in this role must be a respected industry leader with strong external relationships, capable of overseeing $1B+ of Media across all sectors of J&J and recognized as a thought leader with a proven track record of delivering innovative approaches and strategies to media planning and investment that maximize ROI (balancing effectiveness and cost/efficiencies).

This role is a leader of the Digital & Media Excellence Group (part of the Office of Marketing Value) and is dually responsible for creating and influencing a global community of 40+ digital & media leaders across regions/markets and for being that key regional leader for North America. He or she must be innately collaborative, partnering with various key stakeholders from Procurement, Finance, Business Intelligence, Analytics, and Customer Development – in service of brand and commercial business leaders.
This position will have a key strategic leadership role within the organization and must have strong change leadership skills and be able guide media partnerships to drive business results.
KEY DELIVERABLES:
  • Media Priorities: Global and US specific. Strategic guiding principles for audience first media planning and executional guidelines across media channels (TV, Print, Search, Programmatic, Video, Mobile, Social, etc…)
  • Media Saving/Value Delivery: Achieve and evolve targets of earned media value to maximize ROI and overall efficiencies for J&J
  • Media Investment Oversight: Alignment and approval of marketplace approaches and key negotiation terms (mostly relevant in the US)
  • Audience Strategy: Audience centric marketplace approaches, scalable and applicable to be customized for individual markets
  • AdTech Management: Inclusive of Programmatic operations as well as supply chain of targeting and buying technologies and inventory sources
  • Agency Management: Leadership and overall governance of the global media agency relationship
  • External Media Partnership Management: Key global and/or regional media partnership leverage, deal negotiation, and/or joint business plan development
  • Digital Media Data Governance and Brand Safety: Approaches, processes, and cultivation of partnerships to mitigate risk and maximize compliance and governance of the use of consumer/patient data for targeting and ensure placement of J&J ads are in line with our Credo based values
  • New Models: Operational frameworks and new executional models – seeking new ways to optimize the model to increase effectiveness and efficiencies

Qualifications

KEY QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced degree in Marketing, Marketing Management, or Business Administration strongly preferred
  • 15-years+ of experience in marketing, preferably in a consumer marketing or agency- showing a progression of responsibilities
  • Experience in media planning and buying with strong analytical skills in multiple markets
  • Possess highly strategic business knowledge and acumen with an awareness of media trends
  • Experience in creating Connections and Content for businesses and exhibiting thought leadership in the field of building beloved brands required
  • Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional partners and upper management to impact decision-making; Willingness to “have an opinion” backed up by insight and the confidence to influence key stakeholders in meetings and one to one basis
  • Outstanding and clear communication skills; Ability to think analytically to understand complex or ambiguous problems or issues and articulate solutions/conclusions clearly and concisely
  • Able to anticipate/proactively manage the needs of cross-functional constituents in a complex, fast-paced environment)
  • Agile and able to change behavior across range of situations, strong change management capabilities
  • Strategic business partnership: cross-functional leadership, understanding of organizational dynamics , influencing skills, and innovation
  • Direct experience with setting and delivering specific, measurable objectives
  • Marketing, business/strategic planning and/or new product development experience required
  • Function leadership required: Coaching/mentoring skills to train and develop staff required; Experience in building teams; Development and application of best practices and global standards; Effective conflict management; Innovative thinking
  • Approximately 20% travel required globally and domestically
  • This position can be based in New York, NY or Skillman, NJ.
