MPHA is the largest public housing authority in Minnesota. With over 6,000 public housing units and over 5,000 Section 8 vouchers, MPHA serves a diverse community of approximately 26,000 people. MPHA residents and Section 8 participants reside in housing located in virtually every neighborhood of Minneapolis.
MPHA is seeking an inspirational, strategic, and visionary CEO/Executive Director. This person will lead the agency through the continuation of the current strategic plan with goals and objectives grounded in the permanent preservation and expansion of public housing to ensure the well-being of Minneapolis’ lowest income individuals and families. The new CEO/Executive Director will have a proven history of success leading an organization through change and delivering results – while building a collaborative and cohesive work culture to maximize performance outcomes. Highly adept at leading and building high-performing teams, the new CEO/Executive Director will bring an authentic passion and admirable reputation for being an effective leader, partner, and advocate for public housing and its residents.
As the face and voice of MPHA, the new CEO/Executive Director will have an innate ability to genuinely build and sustain meaningful relationships within a vibrant and culturally diverse community. They will be a relational leader who can unite people and continue to build partnerships with multiple stakeholders and will serve as the primary representative for local, state, and federal advocacy. Strong internal and external collaboration, diverse business and interpersonal skills, and leadership experience in a large and/or complex organization are essential to success in this role.

Required Experience:
Minimum Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field, or a combination of education and experience as may be deemed acceptable as equivalent by the Board of Commissioners. Master’s degree preferred. • Leadership experience in a large and/or complex organization. • Strong communication skills, both verbal and in writing. • Working knowledge of government regulations and/or economic development. • Prior experience working with elected bodies and with a board. • Demonstrates cultural competency; is relatable to stakeholders and residents. Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Multilingual. • Ability to gain buy-in and advance strategic initiatives. • Ability to identify and respond to sensitive community and organizational issues, concerns, and needs. • Knowledge of preparation and administration of large complex budgets. • Ability to analyze issues and implement recommendations in support of goals. • Ability to broadly communicate agency program goals and objectives. • Ability to interact effectively with persons from diverse economic, social, and ethnic backgrounds. • Ability to resolve conflicts in highly sensitive and/or political situations. • Knowledge of the operations, services, and activities of a comprehensive public housing program. • Tennant advocacy background preferred. • Knowledge of mandated rules, regulations, law, policies, and procedures governing public housing and the ability to interpret and apply same.
