The Communications Manager, Office of the CEO is responsible for the development and implementation of communication strategy for the Health System CEO. This individual will execute on a diverse set of needs, including the preparation of written materials and slide decks, the management of social media and, in collaboration with the communications office for the health system, executing the CEO’s individual contribution to health systems communications. This position requires a high degree of sophistication, resourcefulness and creativity and the ability to lead by influencing others at all levels across the organization. The position requires the ability to anticipate and deliver upon communications needs far in advance and also a substantial amount of just in time support often outside of traditional working hours. The position requires the ability to support and at times substitute for the communication and engagement obligations of the CEO.
Key Areas of Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of a communication strategy for the CEO, in collaboration with the communications officers
- Anticipate communication needs in various formats and service those needs
- Follow up and continue to engage with key stakeholders for and at times on behalf of the CEO, including notes of thanks and praise, follow up of information requests, and related services.
- Create and disseminate promotional materials, presentations and annual reports for key internal and external stakeholders
- Work closely with leadership to define strategic communication priorities
- Cultivate partnerships to support and promote a compelling vision for Penn Medicine
- Create and maintain operating mechanisms for corporate communications
- Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures
- Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 5 or more years experience in a professional or equivalant experience in a related field

- Empathy to understand diverse perspectives and the nuances of what drives observable behaviors and opinions
- Negotiation skills to engage and establish key terms with external partners who can accelerate projects and outcomes

- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to write persuasively, tell compelling stories in text based, visual, and oral formats, to bring ideas to life and engage audiences
- Be an ambassador for the institution
- Professional maturity to interact with health system employees and patients in a sensitive clinical environment
- Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion
- Resourcefulness to engage other staff towards goals, including temporary or permanent workers or students
- Ability to work on urgent requests outside of traditional business hours
