Smiths Medical is currently hiring a Scrum Master in Minneapolis, MN. This mixed role will serve as Scrum Master for a software team executing Agile development of server- and PC-based applications. In addition, they will be responsible for driving execution of localization of strings used in embedded, server- and PC-based software applications. This will include transforming data files from development teams into formats required by translators, working with translation providers to coordinate the localization work (translations and reviews), transforming localized data back into formats required by the development teams, and working as the liaison between the translation provides and the development teams.

Duties & Responsibilities

Scrum Master: (~70%)

  • Facilitate daily scrums, stand-ups, and meetings to monitor progress and resolve any issues the team may be experiencing
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders, application users, and product owners
  • Oversee and manage scope, timeline, quality, goals and deliverables that support business goals
  • Remove obstacles and develop solutions with the teams’ cooperation
  • Teach the concepts of user story definition, velocity and burn down metrics to the team
  • Document progress and communicate to upper management and stakeholders
  • Take responsibility for successful product delivery
  • Guide teams to a culture of focus, improving the organization of their work through sprint planning, reviews and retrospectives throughout a project life cycle
  • Form partnerships across departments to streamline work processes and improve the speed at which the company can respond to, and capitalize on opportunities
  • Removing impediments or guiding the team to remove impediments by finding the right personnel to remove the impediment

Localization Engineer: (~30%)

  • Localization experience and skills preferred.
  • Good communication skills required.
  • Has experience in collaboration in working with requirements and development teams to coordinate translation needs.
  • Ability to work with entire product lifecycle to help with the management of translation tasks, to identify needs, and delivery of properly translated strings. These apply to both commercial and safety-critical medical software systems.

The Individual
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Scrum Master certification preferred – Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified Scrum Professional (CSP) or Certified Product Owner (CSPO)
  • 3 – 5 years of experience in software development/project management required
  • 3 years of experience as a Scrum Master or similar role
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with exercising Agile methodology. (Strong knowledge of Scrum, Agile and Lean methodologies)
  • SQL Query experience required
  • Team Foundation Server (TFS) required
  • Experience with Version Control & Change Management Tools & Processes (TFS (required), GIT (or equivalent), DOORs, Peer Review Process, are a plus.
  • Localization experience and skills preferred

  • Must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written
