Why does the job exist?
This senior technical staff position is responsible for performance of oversight and management assistance of remedial actions at Superfund sites. The position is also responsible for site investigations of environmental contamination for evaluation through the Hazard Ranking System (HRS) to determine Superfund eligibility. This position will direct and provide technical guidance to lower level professionals as part of project management but does not supervise employees. The position will also assist the Bureau, Program Manager and Team Leaders with special projects, rulemaking, outreach, grant development, and grant management.
How does it get done?
Job duties include: developing, conducting and reporting on environmental investigations to evaluate risks to human health and the environment posed by contamination; review and comment on work plans and reports; and participation in the remedial action selection process and public involvement events.
Who are the customers?
This position’s duty is to protect New Mexico’s residents and groundwater by collaborating with EPA’s Superfund Division to identify and clean up hazardous waste impacts to the environment, especially groundwater.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this position is an individual with considerable technical expertise in environmental assessment and remediation. The candidate must also have considerable project management skills capable of grant development and management, rulemaking, and outreach activities.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Science, Hydrology, Geology, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Watershed Management, Physics, Natural Science, Physical Science, Life Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Forestry/Forest Science, Conservation Science, Wildlife Science Emergency Management or Engineering and eight (8) years of relevant experience. Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License.
Working Conditions
Work is primarily in an office setting, with extensive personal computer and telephone usage. Exposure to Visual and Video Display Terminal (VDT). Occasional travel is required. Field work up to 25% of the time with exposure to seasonal weather conditions and potential exposure to hazardous and/or radioactive waste.
