About the Company:
Cahill Contractors is one of San Francisco’s oldest general contractors, having recently celebrated our 100th anniversary. We are a private, majority family-owned company with a commitment to quality work and strong relationships. We conduct both ground-up construction and renovation, specializing largely in multi-family residential projects, senior housing, education, and community facilities. Our company employs approximately 120 office-based employees and over 100 field employees (largely union signatory). Cahill has offices in San Francisco and Oakland and conducts work throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
Job Summary:
As Cahill’s first-ever Director of People, you will partner with Cahill’s leadership to help our company recruit, retain, and maximize the potential of our greatest asset – our people. The Director of People will lead all aspects of people development and human resources within our organization. This starts with hiring and recruitment, benefits administration, and compliance. More broadly, we are looking for a dynamic leader who can drive a people-focused company culture, can grow and support our employees in their careers, and can drive strong performance and employee engagement at all levels of our organization.
Responsibilities:
People development:
o Lead initiatives to ensure Cahill team members are engaged employees
o Champion diversity and inclusion
o Spearhead Cahill’s Performance Management program
o Assist employees and their managers with goal setting and tracking
o Support Cahill managers in developing their own people management skills
o Act as a resource for employees regarding career goals and individual performance
o Assist in designing or orchestrating training and voluntary mentorship programs
Recruitment and on-boarding:
o Manage all aspects of the recruitment of new hires
o Organize and support Cahill’s participation in career fairs and other recruitment events
o Help develop recruitment brochures and swag
o Perform initial screenings, arrange follow-up interviews, and negotiate offers
o Ensure that all new employees receive comprehensive on-boarding
o Play a key role in orchestrating Cahill’s summer internship program
Benefits Administration:
o Participation in annual benefits selection with Cahill’s CFO and benefits broker
o Conduct annual open enrollment program
o Support employees with benefits changes and questions throughout the year
o Spearhead strong internal two-way communication with employees about benefits
o Evaluate new, cost-effective benefits that provide value to our employees
Compliance:
o Ensure Cahill’s employment practices are consistent with all laws and regulations
o Update Cahill’s Employee Handbook, policies, and procedures periodically or as needed
o In collaboration with other Cahill departments, file all required reporting and paperwork
o Working with our Safety Department, spearhead our office ergonomic program
o Document and investigate any allegations of harassment or discrimination
Management of HR staff and systems
o Develop and manage to an annual budget for the department
o Manage HR staff (currently one part-time HR Administrator)
o Use Viewpoint as a combined HRIS and payroll/accounting software
o Stay abreast of best practices in the industry
Desired Skills and Experience:
· Minimum of Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required
· 10+ years experience in human resources or organizational development
· Specialized training in employment law, organizational development, or labor relations
· Broad knowledge and experience in employment regulations
· Experience in selection and administration of benefits and compensation programs
· Experience with performance management / annual review processes
· Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills
· Demonstrated ability to manage HR staff
· Vision and independent thinking to generate new ideas and implement new approaches
· Ability to practice the utmost level of confidentiality
Position Information:
· This job will be based in Cahill’s San Francisco headquarters. However, the job may require travel around the San Francisco Bay Area.
