POSITION SUMMARY
The Health Information Management (HIM) Coding Director provides leadership, oversight, and direction, for coding operations for Facility. The HIM Coding Director works collaboratively with system Revenue Cycle, the facility Health Information departments, Patient Access Teams, Patient Financial Services, Shared Services, Case Management, Physicians, hospital leadership and management.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

· Hire coding personnel, conduct performance evaluations, counsel employees in performance improvement, conflict resolution, disciplinary action, and coordination of employee schedules for adequate coverage

· Provide effective leadership and oversight for direct reports.

· Foster an environment of teamwork and service excellence within the department

· Ensures compliance with facility internal guideline requirements related to maintenance of the legal health record.

· Monitors and reports key performance indicators as required by Sr. leadership

· Develop plans for performance improvement for coding operations

· Develop, implement and monitor policies and procedures, guidelines, and coding compliance plan for coding

· Perform audits to ensure coding compliance

· Develop productivity measures for coding of medical records and ensure adherence to quality and compliance requirements

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Skills

· Bachelor degree, medical record science or medical record administration preferred or equivalent hospital leadership experience required.

· Must have extensive knowledge of health information management functions including coding and compliance (ICD-10/PCS, CPT coding systems, MS-DRGs, and APCs).

· Must possess a strong working knowledge in internal integrity requirements and procedures.

· Knowledge of governmental, federal, state and local regulations related to billing rules and compliance.

Experience

· Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a medical record department of a mid-large inpatient facility including 5 years in a managerial capacity (coding management preferred).

· Experience with a centralized staffing model preferred

· Experience with remote work force operations required

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:

· RHIA, RHIT, or CCS credentialed required

· AHIMA approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer designation preferred
