Position Summary

The Director, Logistics is responsible for developing logistics, service, and inventory management strategy and leads the day to day execution of the logistics organization including the operation and maintenance of all company trucks and service facilities. This role reports to the VP, Supply Chain.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
  • Directs logistics management budgeting, strategic and tactical planning, business process re-engineering, and directs the management of field logistics, which includes Regional Distribution Centers, Customer Service Centers operations, and Fleet and Garage operations (approximately 850 associates) in both union and non-union environments.
  • Responsible for the strategic and tactical management of inventory control and distribution planning, warehouse, transportation, and customer service operations.
o Total accountability for BCC inventory performance metrics: inventory levels, turn rates, fill rates, and back orders.
o Remote space site and capacity planning.
o Network configuration.
  • Attracts, sources and develops “A level” talent within the logistics organization.
  • Directs and aligns activities of customer service center distribution operations with activities of sales, manufacturing and strategic sourcing functions to ensure availability of materials and products.
  • Demand planning including inventory build plans, new product introduction, safety stock/cycle stock targets, plant run rates, promotion stock management.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with third party product and service vendors.
  • General understanding of labor contract administration processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain union free working environments.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises 5-10 employees who supervise a total of 850 employees. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance to the Company policies, the Code of Ethical Business Conduct and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent from four-year college or university; and ten to twenty+ years related supply chain experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience with an emphasis in Logistics.

  • Strong proven leadership capability, prior supervisory experience is a requirement
  • Ability to direct solutions of highly complex business problems
  • Proven ability to effectively manage and ensure all aspects are optimized
  • Ability to direct, motivate, and manage direct reports and cross functional teams
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems
  • Possess analytical, logical, and strategic thinking skills
  • Expert-level negotiation skills and experience negotiating high profile contracts. Strong contract writing skill sets and legal knowledge of applicable terms and conditions
  • Ability to work cohesively with all levels of internal and external customers; ability to communicate across functional and multicultural lines
  • Possess strong organizational, written and verbal communication, problem solving and time management skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals
  • Able to review and write capital fund request for changes generating or sustaining improvements in cost, quality and/or delivery
  • Employ advanced program and project management tools, solutions, and techniques
  • Solve problems and make tactical and strategic decisions for all assigned responsibilities
Required/preferred experience:
  • Knowledge of JD Edwards or PeopleSoft
  • Understanding of lean principles and problem-solving techniques
  • Familiar with distribution systems, material flow, and associated processes
  • Familiar with Six Sigma and/or principles in statistical control
  • Formal Lean training
Travel
Employee must be able to travel 50% of the time.
