Job Summary

As part of our continued investment in discovery research, we are currently seeking an outstanding cellular and/or molecular biologist with a record of accomplishment of success in developing and leading early stage discovery programs in a biotech or pharma R&D environment. She/he will be responsible for directly contributing to and overseeing the research activities of a talented team of scientists working at the cutting edge of modern drug discovery. Using a broad range of molecular and cell biology tools and methods, the successful individual will design, evaluate and implement biologically relevant, state of the art cellular assays to understand better the effect of investigational agents on cellular pathways and phenotypes. As a key member of discovery project teams, she/he will work closely with scientists across the wider Incyte discovery community including chemistry, pharmacology and translational science to ensure optimal project alignment and clear communication of scientific progress. The successful candidate will also function as a scientific and technical expert for the drug discovery organization and have responsibility for scouting, developing and integrating new technology into the drug discovery process. Expertise in molecular biology, development of cell assays / technologies and broad experience utilizing this expertise together with the ability to lead scientific team(s) in a drug discovery setting is required.

Essential Functions of the Job (Key responsibilities)

  • Provide cross-departmental scientific leadership for molecular and cell biology to advance projects from initiation to the selection of clinical candidate(s).
  • Lead a team of ~10 research scientists responsible for the creation of relevant cellular assays for screening/profiling of novel small molecules and biologics.
  • Contribute to and oversee the application of molecular biology/gene editing and other technologies for bioassay development, deployment and analysis.
  • Propose new potential drug discovery targets and pathways, critically evaluate promising approaches and advocate for scientifically robust proposals.
  • Ensure internal and external resources are allocated optimally to advance discovery programs.

Qualifications (Minimal acceptable level of education, work experience, and competency)

  • Ph.D. and at least 10 years of relevant post-doctoral experience in Cell Biology or related field, including at least 5 years of successful research experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical company environment.
  • A track record of success in contributing to and advancing early drug discovery programs to identify clinical candidates.
  • Outstanding record of publications and presentations in high profile, peer reviewed journals or at national/international scientific conferences.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven experience of leading team(s) of peers and of mentoring junior scientists.
  • Self-driven, creative and entrepreneurial with ability to drive multiple programs simultaneously.
