As the Assistant Director, you will; Provide administrative supervision for staff involved with the departmentâs provision of auxiliary aids and services including: note-taking; deaf/Hard of Hearing accommodations; lab assistants; Alternate Formatting of learning materials; physical access barriers; etc. Participates in and contributes to the Strategic Plan of the department meeting its overall mission within the university as determined by the Director. Contributes to ongoing continuous improvement of the department through benchmarking, research and determining best practice recommendations for assigned areas of responsibility. As a leader, strives to develop their direct reports in a manner consistent with the overall department approach. Sets goals, evaluates performance, and provides constructive feedback and works with Director on compensation issues. Serves on selected committees and arranges for regular contact with constituents across campus as determined through the strategic plan of the department. Co-facilitates the organization and delivery of Department Educational programming made available to the public.
Required:
- Masterâs Degree in the following: Rehabilitation Counseling, Guidance and Counseling, Special Education, Higher Education Student Affairs, Social Work, Psychology, Disability Studies, or related field.
- One year of disability related experience.
- Demonstrated understanding and interpretation of the ADA, Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and WCAG 2.0 standards of accessibility as they apply to the University setting.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of assistive technology, alternate formatting, video captioning, and addressing physical barriers to access.
- Developed communication and organizational skills that demonstrate managing work flows from the beginning request to completion of the request that includes transparent and sustainable record keeping, billing reconciliation, and timely submission for payment.
- Familiar with commonly used technology solutions like: screen readers, speech-to-text, screen enlargement software and applications for both PC and MAC users.
- Can problem solve compatibility issues.
- Comfortable with engaging campus partners and working one-on-one as well as with large groups in a presentation or workshop setting.
- Well-developed verbal and written communications skills.
- Approachable with the ability and desire to collaborate and work effectively with University faculty, staff, students, parents, vendors, and administrators.
- Desire to be a change agent, in a changing environment.
Preferred:
- 2+ Years of disability related experience.
- Someone fluent in applying the social model of disability into the delivery of Higher Education Disability services.
