1. Job Description/Aims of the Job

The machining production manager is responsible for supplying the customer with good parts on time. He assures that his staff is well trained, motivated and follow the defined procedures. He takes care of the continuous improvement of tools, fixtures, programs to improve the quality (scrap) and productivity.
He is responsible for the achievement of the goals in the production department.

2. Tasks/Competences/Responsibilities
2.1. Managerial functions

  • Hire/fire employees
  • Lead/inform/train the employees within the production department
  • Coach the direct reporting employees (shift leader, process engineers)
  • Assure that all policies and procedures (safety, quality…) are respected and hold people accountable
  • Conduct employee performance reviews
  • Schedule and conduct plant meetings

2.2. Professional tasks

  • Responsible for on-time and efficient production in coordination with the supporting departments (Planning & Logistics, Maintenance, Quality)
  • Optimization of quality control within production department
  • Analyze downtime, implement improvements, increase the OEE
  • Goal achievement (OEE, scrap…)
  • Maintain a clean and safe production floor, improve 5S system.
  • Assure compliance with approved methods and quality standards.
  • Launch new customer projects
  • Development, negotiation and management of production equipment, tooling and supplies in cooperation with the headquarters
  • Provide technical customer support

2.3. Special tasks

  • Achieve and maintain a high level of employee satisfaction.
  • Implement 5S/Standartization program in production area
  • Planning the layout, workflow, manufacturing methods and workforce utilization.

2.4. Authorizations/Information relations

  • Can authorize all documents and processes within the department
  • Has the authorization to stop production to avoid manufacturing of defective or potentially defective components.

2.5. Work Safety:
In accordance with his training and the instructions and resources provided by the employer, the machining production manager will ensure his own health and safety as well as that of other personnel present at the workplace who are dependent on his actions. The right candidate will act as the “right hand” of the employer, and in accordance with his responsibility and authority, he shall:

  • monitor and enforce compliance with safety regulations among employees,
  • inform his direct superior of continued disregard of regulations and take disciplinary action,
  • lead employees out of danger zones in emergency situations, and inform them immediately of hazardous situations,
  • remedy safety defects in work equipment, personal protective equipment, or other dangerous situations (stop production), and report to his employer or business management without delay

2.6. Environment

The machining production manager will ensure that employees comply with environmental regulations. Deviations have to be fixed immediately and reported to the superior. Promote environmental awareness by ensuring efficient and careful use of resources (waste treatment, electricity, harmful emissions, etc.).

4. Job requirements/Job profile
4.1. Qualification/professional experience

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering with fundamental knowledge in leadership
  • Knowledge in the fields of machining and casting of aluminium components
  • Experience in the supervision and organization of personnel
  • Knowledge in re-structuring concepts for production facilities and administration
  • 3+ years’ experience in the automotive industry and the technical and quality requirements.
  • German language skills a plus (written and oral)
  • Metric drawing reading skills required.
  • Toolmaker apprenticeship a plus.

  • Compose letters/memos for internal/external use.
  • Complete forms for internal/external use.
  • Use e-mail system.
