Job Description
Primary Purpose:
Conducts in-depth research and analysis of the impact of market and economic trends on current and future traffic and revenue for Intermodal and Automotive business segments in order to effectively and accurately develop and manage volume and revenue forecasts for the current budget year and the five year plan.
- Serves as owner of the revenue and operating expense budget and forecast process and is the primary supplier of information within the department and to other internal NS departments.
- Initiates and implements changes to the forecast process to continuously refine and improve it, including: IT projects to improve forecasting systems, automating manual processes, instituting process changes from post audit forecast performance review, and identification and resolution of data discrepancies.
- Assists with designing, planning, and conducting market research studies for marketing initiatives that include new corridor and product development.
- Develops volume, and revenue projections for input into value propositions to justify investment including the preparation and translation of marketing forecast data for integration into the transportation, terminal, equipment, and financial resource planning processes.
- Works independently to identify and gather market information and makes recommendations to management regarding new services, market changes, and Norfolk Southern’s positioning in the Intermodal marketplace.
- Provides research, prepares periodic and ad hoc reports/presentations for Assistant Vice President of Intermodal & Automotive.
- Communicates verbally and in writing with multiple internal groups in order to collect, analyze, and present findings and must quickly and accurately provide written documents for various corporate presentations and publications including Board Meetings, Security Analyst Presentations, Annual Reports, Investor Book, and SEC filings, as well as ad hoc management requests.
